Chivayo Steps In With Major Boost for Highlanders FC

Highlanders Football Club has received a major boost ahead of the new season after businessman Wicknell Chivayo donated a 75-seater luxury bus and US$300,000 in cas;h, bringing his total contribution to US$585,000.
The donation is expected to ease long-standing transport challenges for the Bulawayo giants, with the new bus set to improve travel for matches and training, particularly on long away trips.
Club officials say improved transport will enhance player comfort and preparation, which could positively impact performance on the pitch.
Chivayo says his gesture is aimed at supporting local football and assisting Highlanders through a difficult financial period. He emphasized that the donation does not signal any intention to take over or influence the club’s operations.
While reactions among supporters are mixed, many have welcomed the support, noting that it comes at a time when local football clubs are under severe financial pressure.
The cash injection is expected to help cover immediate operational costs, including player welfare and day-to-day expenses.
