Zimbabwe says the 2025/2026 summer cropping season is progressing well, a development that could strengthen national food security and stabilise grain supplies if current trends continue.

According to government updates, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) is holding 187 245 tonnes of grain in storage, including 113 751 tonnes of wheat. The remainder comprises maize and traditional grains, with a significant share reportedly supplied by the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA).

Government has allocated ZIG73 million and US$313.9 million to support the season. The GMB says it has so far paid farmers more than US$22.3 million for grain deliveries and continues to process payments.

ZIMSTAT reports indicate crops are generally in good condition across all provinces, while meteorological services have forecast normal to above-normal rainfall.

About 1.9 million hectares have been put under maize, a 30 percent increase from last season, with ARDA planting over 101 000 hectares of maize and sorghum.

Nearly 16 million Pfumvudza/Intwasa plots have been registered, marking a significant rise from last year. Tobacco hectarage has also expanded, with exports said to be increasing.
