The European Union (EU) has lifted travel bans and asset freezes on Zimbabwe, signaling a step toward improved diplomatic and trade relations. However, the EU has extended its arms embargo for another year, until 20 February 2027.

The EU Council completed its annual review of restrictive measures, originally imposed on 15 February 2011, replacing earlier regulations dating back to 18 February 2002.

While the arms embargo remains, officials say the removal of travel and asset restrictions reflects ongoing constructive engagement with Zimbabwe.

The European Union said it aims to strengthen ties across trade, investment, and other sectors, while continuing to monitor the impact of sanctions in response to future developments.
