Prince Sivalo’s Magriza Made Me Cook boosts cultural preservation through cuisine

Zimbabwean creative Prince Sivalo says his culinary documentary series Magriza Made Me Cook has become an important platform for preserving the country’s food heritage and cultural identity through documentation.
The project, which showcases traditional dishes and the stories behind them, has earned national recognition after being nominated at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), a development that has increased its visibility and influence within the creative industry.
Speaking to SkyzMetro Fm Sivalo said the recognition affirms the impact of the work being done and has opened doors to new opportunities, including collaborations with other creatives.
Sivalo highlighted that local communities are increasingly inspired to embrace and preserve their traditions while taking pride in their cultural heritage through Magriza Made me cook . The series places emphasis on celebrating Zimbabwean cuisine as a key component of identity and history.
Sivalo highlighted that he travelled to Eswatini, Botswana and Ethiopia last year, where he explored and documented different food cultures. He now hopes to visit more countries to draw comparisons between their cuisine and Zimbabwe’s food.
