Two officials from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) have appeared in court on allegations of extortion and unlawful detention, a case that raises serious concerns about abuse of public office.

Brian Munyaradzi Kombora, 32, and Terrence Manatse, 34, were arraigned at Plumtree Magistrates’ Court facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as public officers and unlawful detention.

The court heard that on 17 February this year, Kombora allegedly entered ZIMRA offices at Mphoengs Border Post while off duty, identified himself as a ZACC officer and arrested a 39-year-old supervisor. He is accused of demanding money for her release and detaining her and two colleagues in a locked office.

Security officers later intervened and arrested him. Manatse was also arrested after allegedly attempting to secure his colleague’s release.

Both men were granted US$100 dollars bail each.
