Bystander Killed During Bull Slaughter Attempt

A 47-year-old man has died after being shot during an attempt to slaughter a bull in Gwanda district, an incident that has now led to a culpable homicide charge.

61-year-old Dumisani Nyathi appeared before the Gwanda Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the incident happened on February 21 in the Lushongwe area.

Prosecutors allege that local butcher Khonzani Sibanda collected the bull from Thuli Farm in Makwe before it was transported for slaughter.

The animal reportedly broke free and charged at bystanders. Nyathi, who was armed with a shotgun, allegedly fired at the bull but missed, striking Butholezwe Sibanda in the chest. He died at the scene.
