One Dead, 16 Injured in Kami Road Crash

One person died while 16 others were seriously injured after a kombi collided with a seven-tonne truck along Kami Road at the Monarch Turn in Bulawayo on Friday night.

According to emergency services, the deceased passenger was trapped inside the wreckage and was later retrieved by members of the Bulawayo Fire Brigade.

Four ambulances from Bulawayo City Council and two from Highway Emergency Services transported the injured victims to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along Kami Road, with the route temporarily closed for nearly an hour as rescue teams attended to victims and cleared the damaged vehicles.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo described the accident as severe and urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to help prevent further loss of life.
