Zimbabwe’s Warriors suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the Unity Cup semi-final in London on Tuesday night, in Kaitano Tembo’s first match in charge of the national team.
Azeez Beloso scored twice for the Super Eagles, finding the opener in the fifth minute before sealing the victory in the 62nd minute. Goalkeeper Future Sibanda produced several important saves to keep Zimbabwe in the contest, while the Warriors created chances through Junior Zindoga, Jonah Fabisch and Munashe Garan’anga.
Zimbabwe improved after the break and enjoyed better possession, but failed to convert their opportunities as Nigeria comfortably managed the match until full time.
The Warriors will now face the loser of the other semi-final between Jamaica and India in the third-place playoff on 30 May, while Nigeria advance to the Unity Cup final.
