A 33-year-old man from Filabusi has been sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting two juvenile sisters aged three years and seven months.
The sentence was handed down by the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court, which imposed 20 years’ imprisonment on each count, with the terms running concurrently.
The court heard that on February 24, 2026, the children’s mother left the siblings at their homestead in Chief Maduna area while she worked in nearby fields. She returned home after hearing the infant crying and allegedly found the accused at the scene with his clothing in disarray.
Suspecting foul play, the mother examined the children and discovered signs of abuse before reporting the matter to police. The victims were subsequently referred to Filabusi District Hospital for medical examination.
Authorities reiterate that perpetrators of sexual offences against minors will face severe punishment under the law.
