Zimbabwean singer-songwriter and performing arts educator Carmen has released a powerful new single titled Aluta Continua, featuring internationally acclaimed musician and cultural activist Vusa Mkhaya.

Speaking on the release of the song, Carmen said his music has always been grounded in the ideals of African Renaissance and Ubuntu.

“My music has always been deeply rooted in the ideals of African Renaissance and Ubuntu. I believe Africa is a sleeping giant, a continent that has been exploited, wounded, and whose story has too often been told through the eyes of others rather than by its own people.

With the rise of afrophobic attacks across the continent and the reality that Africa often stands alone on the global stage, I felt compelled to write Aluta Continua. The song is both a reminder and a call to action, urging Africans to remember who we are, awaken the spirit of our heroes and heroines, and reconnect with what Africa was, what it is, and what it should become,” said Carmen.

The collaboration with Vusa Mkhaya came after Carmen shared the composition with the award-winning musician for feedback. Mkhaya immediately connected with both the message and musical direction of the song.

Mkhaya says the single aligns with the themes that have defined his artistic journey, adding that the song serves as both a celebration of Africa’s achievements and a call for continued action.

“Aluta Continua fits naturally into my artistic journey because it builds on everything I’ve been advocating for through my music African identity, pride, resilience and progress,” says Mkhaya.

The single is now available on digital streaming platforms.
