The Matabeleland Scouts will on Saturday host their Provincial Cook-Out Competition at the 56th Mpopoma Scout Hall, marking the return of the annual event after a break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to SkyzMetro FM, Travelling Commissioner Gugulethu Hlabangana said Scout patrols from across the province will compete in outdoor cooking while being assessed on hygiene, fire management, teamwork, time management and food preparation.

He added that activities have been tailored to suit different age groups, with younger members preparing simple no-fire meals and older Scouts demonstrating advanced outdoor cooking skills.

Hlabangana mentioned that “It’s been a while since an event of this magnitude has been hosted at the Mpopoma Scout Hall so the atmosphere is bound to be exciting and we want to engage the local Community and showcase Scouting around the Mpopoma Community so it’s a very huge event and an even bigger step.”

Organisers say the competition is aimed at developing leadership, problem-solving and practical life skills, while promoting teamwork and safe outdoor practices among young people.
