Three public representatives, PR Councillor Mohamed Lezina, Youth Quota Member of Parliament Sikhuphukile Dube, and Women’s Quota Member of Parliament Samukeliso Maseko, joined hands with the Makokoba Music Festival over the weekend to donate a bed to a Makokoba family whose home was destroyed by fire.

The donation follows a devastating blaze that tore through the family’s home at 847 7th Street in late June 2026.

The fire broke out during the day while the family was away, destroying household furniture, clothing, electrical appliances, and other personal belongings.

The roof was also severely damaged, leaving the family without adequate shelter. Fortunately, no one was at home when the fire occurred.

The donation of a bed was aimed at providing the family with some comfort as they began rebuilding their lives.

“No family should have to endure these cold winter nights without a place to rest. Together with the Makokoba Music Festival, we donated a bed to a family whose home was gutted by fire two weeks ago. We hope this gesture brings them some comfort as they rebuild their lives,” said the public representatives.

Receiving the donation, homeowner Tinashe Mutsanyi thanked the delegation for their timely support.

“We experienced a devastating house fire while everyone was away. Our household furniture, clothes, and everything we owned were destroyed in the inferno, leaving us with nothing. We are grateful to the honourables and the Makokoba Music Festival for this gesture. This donation will go a long way in helping our family during this difficult time,” said Mutsanyi.

The family continues to appeal for assistance, including building materials, food, clothing, bedding, and financial support as they work to recover from the tragedy.

Those wishing to assist or make inquiries can contact the family directly on 0776 762 181 or 0774 126 759.
