The 1 Infantry Brigade Induna Schools are hosting the 15th edition of the Commander Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Schools Sports Final Competition and Merit Awards, which began on the 27th of July and will conclude on 31 July 2026.
The prestigious annual event was officially opened by Commander 1 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Enerst Shamu, who welcomed participating schools and encouraged learners to compete with discipline, unity and excellence.
This year’s competition is being held under the theme: “ZNA Schools: Unlocking the Heritage-Based Curriculum Through Utilization of Indigenous Knowledge, Resources and Culture for Holistic Learner Development.”
A total of 19 ZNA schools from across the country are taking part in the finals, comprising 12 primary schools and seven secondary schools.
Learners are competing in a variety of sporting and academic disciplines, including athletics, boys’ and girls’ soccer, netball, basketball, chess, quiz, music, and drill displays for junior cadets.
The competition is expected to conclude with a Merit Awards Ceremony on 31 July 2026, where outstanding learners and schools will be recognised for their achievements.
Organisers say the annual games are designed not only to identify and nurture sporting talent, but also to promote discipline, teamwork, patriotism and the integration of heritage and indigenous knowledge into the school curriculum.
The ongoing finals have brought together learners, teachers, military officials and parents in a celebration of sport, culture and academic excellence, with participants showcasing both athletic ability and intellectual talent throughout the week.
The ZNA Schools Sports Finals remain one of the army’s key educational and sporting platforms, aimed at producing well-rounded learners equipped with the values and skills needed for national development.
