Zimbabwe’s cricket team produced a combination of vicious batting and ruthless bowling to beat Kenya by 70 runs to reach the African Games final in Ghana yesterday.

Zimbabwe smashed 114 runs off the last eight overs, led by an onslaught from Clive Madande and Tashinga Musekiwa. Musekiwa was particularly brutal, scoring 39 runs from 10 balls faced.

The groundwork had already been laid by Johnathan Campbell earlier in the game, who registered 42 runs with a skillful combination of great placement and powerful hitting.

But it was Madande, who from his first ball had intent. He reverse-swept his first ball for four and then powered his next for a six, which set a tone for Zimbabwe to record a score of 196 for 5 after 20 overs.

The score set by Zimbabwe would prove to be a challenge for the West African side who were only restricted to the score of 126 all out after 19 overs.

Zimbabwe’s win means they are now guaranteed a minimum of a silver medal when they face Namibia in the Final tomorrow.
