A gold panner has lost US$6 000 in cash after falling victim to a bogus manager scam in Bulawayo, with police warning the public to remain alert.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) stated that the incident occurred on 23 October, around eleven in the morning, at the intersection of George Silundika Street and Fourth Avenue.
Bulawayo Police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said the victim was offered US$22 for a short task and handed his luggage to the suspected scammer, who then disappeared with the bag.
“Always be aware of your surroundings when assisting someone in the CBD. There is nothing wrong with choosing not to help a stranger if it keeps you safe, we have seen too many cases where good intentions lead to stolen property,” Msebele stated.
Police are urging members of the public to be cautious when approached by strangers offering quick cash or asking to handle their belongings in the city center.
