Zim to employ AI in tackling Climate change issues

The government of Zimbabwe has launched the national ICT Policy which rides on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications to curb exponential and transformative use of fossil fuels which has increased greenhouse emissions leading to climate change over these past years.

This came during the climate sensitization workshop which was held recently at the new parliament building in Mount Hampden in Harare.

Speaking during the climate change sensitization workshop, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda said that there is need for the nation to confront the climate change phenomenon head-on and be imperative that a climate change impoverished environment is likely to negate the people of the right to development as well as the right to accelerated socio-economic growth.

Honourable Advocate Mudenda added that by employing AI, the country can reliably put in place early warning systems that accurately predict climate change impacts such as cyclones, severe droughts, flash floods and intensive heatwaves.

Meanwhile, Mudeda concluded that, to employ AI in the country’s e-governance, Parliament should urgently enact a regulatory framework that will govern the sustainable application of AI in both the private and public sector

The government will partner with the Bindura University of Science Education as the local pioneers in AI theatre.
