A former Public Prosecutor stationed at Tredgold Magistrates’ Court in Bulawayo, Bhekimpilo Moyo, has been sentenced to five years in prison for bribery, with two years suspended, leaving him to serve an effective three-year jail term.

Moyo was convicted of soliciting and receiving a US$200 bribe from Betty House in an attempt to secure a non-custodial sentence for her brother. He later demanded an additional US$250, prompting the complainant to report him to the authorities. He was arrested on 10 July 2024, shortly after the incident.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) condemned Moyo’s actions and reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out corruption within the justice system. The authority urged the public to report any cases of bribery or misconduct involving its officials.
