South Africa ended Day 1 of the second Test in a commanding position, reaching 465 for 4 after 88 overs at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo yesterday.
The Proteas’ top order delivered a dominant batting performance, piling pressure on Zimbabwe’s bowlers throughout the day.
It was Wiaan Mulder who headlined the action at Queens Sports Club, with an unbeaten career-best of 264 runs, powering South Africa to a formidable first-innings.
Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, missing key players due to injury, struggled to find breakthroughs on a flat track. Despite spirited efforts from Tanaka Chivanga and debutant Kundai Matigimu, the Chevrons struggled to keep the Proteas at bay as they kept on posting runs.
Captain Craig Ervine rotated his bowlers in search of answers as South Africa’s run rate remained above five at times.
The visitors are already 1-0 up in the series and will be looking to bat the Chevrons out of the game early on Day 2.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will hope for early wickets today to claw their way back into the game.
