The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 2,132 individuals under the ongoing national operation code-named “No to Illegal Firearms, Misuse of Toy Guns and Dangerous Weapons.”

The arrests were made between 27 August and 10 September 2025, according to a statement released by the police on Tuesday.

The operation, which aims to reduce the circulation and misuse of unlicensed and dangerous weapons, also uncovered widespread violations related to firearm possession and illegal skin-lightening products.

According to the ZRP, the crackdown resulted in the recovery of, 60 unlicensed firearms, 305 firearms with expired certificates, 96 firearms linked to other offences, 258 toy guns that were being misused, 2,967 other dangerous weapons.

In a related move, 604 people were arrested for selling and possessing prohibited skin-lightening products, which are banned due to health risks.

The police have reminded the public to properly secure their firearms and comply with firearm safety regulations. In cases where a firearm owner dies, family members or estate administrators are legally required to surrender the weapons to the police, in line with the Firearms Act (Chapter 10:09). The operation is ongoing.
