The Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) has emphasized the need for inclusive and sustainable procurement practices, seeking to strengthen public understanding and media reporting on public procurement processes.

Speaking during the second media training workshop held at Kadoma International Centre recently, PRAZ Corporate Communications Manager, Mqhele Tshuma highlighted the importance of affirmative procurement, which targets the empowerment of marginalized groups such as women, youths, war veterans, and people living with disabilities.

“In our movement across the country, we realized that yes, we are calling for coverage, but do the people covering these issues really understand? Now, we are engaging them directly in their space,” Tshuma said.

He added that the media training workshops are also helping to educate SMEs and marginalized groups on how they can participate in the public procurement space, particularly in terms of ownership of businesses and access to opportunities.

“We were saying that most of the products and the way people are actually doing their business lately  is finding someone still buying something that is not sustainable in the future.

And we need something that we were encouraging even procuring entities to say, going forward, let’s procure sustainably”, he said.

The training workshop drew journalists from across the country and is part of PRAZ’s ongoing efforts to build capacity among media practitioners and promote transparency in public procurement.
