Trio Jailed for robbery in Gwanda

Three men have been jailed for a violent robbery at Freda Mine in Gwanda.
Conilias Ndlovu, aged 36, Junior Sibanda, 18, and 28-year-old Renika Takaruva, were each sentenced to five years in prison by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on August 10th this year, the trio and three accomplices who are still on the run, attacked a man at Freda Mine. They struck him on the head with a shovel, and threatened him with an axe and a whip before stealing a solar panel, a small radio, a shovel, and a cellphone worth 450 US dollars.
Police later arrested the offenders and recovered some of the stolen items.
Of the five-year sentence, 11 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while one month was set aside on condition that each pays 50 dollars in restitution.
The National Prosecuting Authority has urged communities to work closely with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities to help strengthen public safety.
