Zimbabwe has been chosen as one of 10 countries worldwide to introduce lenacapavir, a revolutionary HIV prevention medicine that offers unprecedented protection against the virus.

The drug, developed through a partnership between Gilead Sciences and the Global Fund, has shown remarkable efficacy in clinical trials, boasting a 99% success rate in keeping individuals HIV-negative.

According to health officials, the introduction of this twice-yearly injection will be a game-changer in protecting vulnerable populations, particularly pregnant and breastfeeding women, who are disproportionately affected by the virus.

The introduction of lenacapavir is expected to strengthen healthcare systems, improve treatment accessibility, and bring Zimbabwe closer to achieving its goal of ending new HIV infections.
