The Government of Zimbabwe has approved the principles of the Zimbabwe Border Management Authority Bill, a move aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening national security at border posts.
Information,Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Honourable Jenfan Muswere announced after this week’s Cabinet meeting that the new authority will bring all border operations under one coordinated body.
“Cabinet considered and approved the principles for the Zimbabwe Border Management Authority Bill. The Zimbabwe Border Management Authority Bill seeks to create a dedicated management authority for effective coordination, rationalisation and integration of border management processes,” said Muswere.
Currently, multiple ministries and agencies operate independently at the borders, often causing delays and congestion. The proposed Authority will harmonise entry and exit processes, speed up service delivery, enhance security, and make it easier to facilitate trade.
Muswere said the Bill is expected to modernise border management while aligning operations with international best practices.
