The City of Bulawayo has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Umzingwane Pump Station that will last until 5 October 2025, to facilitate essential upgrade works.
The shutdown is part of a government-funded project aimed at improving the city’s water infrastructure.
In a statement, two new 500kV transformers will be installed to replace the existing transformer, which has capacity limitations and can only sustain one duty pump at a time.
The upgrade will improve the city’s pumping capacity and reliability in delivering bulk water. During the shutdown, water supply will be managed based on reservoir levels, and distribution will occur on an as-needed basis.
BCC advises residents to store sufficient water ahead of the shutdown, as the reduced pumping capacity may affect water distribution. The city apologizes for any inconvenience caused and assures residents that the upgrades are vital for improving the city’s water infrastructure.
