The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced the immediate termination of Michael Nees’ contract as head coach of the Zimbabwe men’s national team, the Warriors.
The decision was made by the ZIFA Executive Committee, citing the need for change as the reason behind their resolve.
In a statement released yesterday, ZIFA expressed gratitude for Nees’ efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football during his tenure.
Nees, a 57-year-old German, was appointed earlier this year, bringing a wealth of experience to the national team. However, a string of disappointing results, including a winless run in the World Cup qualifiers, saw the team struggle to meet expectations.
ZIFA says it remains focused on strengthening technical programs and ensuring the growth of football in the country. Details of interim coaching arrangements and the transition process will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are gearing up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they face tough Group B opponents, Egypt, Angola, and South Africa.
