The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe, led the graduation of new firefighters at Famona Fire Station in Bulawayo yesterday.

The firefighters came from six rural district councils which are Binga, Insiza, Matobo, Tsholotsho, Hwange, and Bubi. In total, 35 firefighters graduated 26 men and 9 women.

Minister Garwe said each council had received a fire truck. He said this graduation was not only important for the new firefighters but also for Zimbabwe, as it helps improve the country’s readiness to handle emergencies like fires and accidents.

“People must work together as a team and a new fire station will be built in Cowdray Park because it is far from the city centre, and fire services must arrive within 10 minutes after a fire starts”Minister said .

Some of the new firefighters were honoured for their outstanding performance. In third place was Awakhiwe Ncube from Tsholotsho, second was Gracious Ncube from Matobo, and the top performer was Zithelo Moyo from Insiza.
