Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has announced that experienced cricketer Sean Williams will no longer be considered for national team duties. He pulled out of the squad just before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Harare, at a time when drug testing was expected.

After his sudden withdrawal, ZC started looking into the matter. During the investigation, Williams admitted he has been battling drug addiction and has chosen to enter a rehabilitation centre to get help.

ZC said they were unhappy with how he withdrew, especially because he has had several disciplinary problems and has often been unavailable. This has affected team plans and performance.

Although ZC supports his decision to get treatment, they are concerned about the timing of his withdrawal, especially when drug testing was about to happen.

The cricket board reminded all players that professionalism and following anti-doping rules is important to protect the reputation and strength of the team.

As a result, ZC has decided not to renew his contract when it ends on 31 December 2025.
