Mhali Primary School in Bulawayo held its annual Speech and Prize Giving Day on the 28th of November, celebrating academic excellence and learner achievements.
The occasion was made special by the presence of Ambassador Joe Tapera Mhishi, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Australia, who is also a proud former pupil from the class of 1973.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Mhishi reflected on the importance of education and how access to information has transformed over the years. “Back then, we used to walk 12 kilometres just to borrow a book, which we returned after 14 days,” he said. “Now, children can access information online from the comfort of their homes or classrooms.”
Ambassador Mhishi also applauded the school for introducing ICT and practical subjects at an early stage. “I am proud that our learners are now being taught computer skills and practical subjects,” Mhishi said. “These will equip them with knowledge and survival skills for the future.”
He further encouraged the promotion of sports in schools, emphasizing its role in building discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among young people.
The ceremony was a celebration of excellence and progress, with students receiving awards in various academic and extracurricular categories.
