Sungura Music Legend Nicholas Zakaria Dies at 69

Famous Zimbabwean musician Nicholas Zakaria, also known as “Madzibaba” or “The Senior Lecturer,” has died at the age of 69. He passed away in the early morning hours today, after being sick for a long time. His family and music group confirmed the sad news in a statement shared online.
Zakaria was a well-loved artist known for his powerful voice and strong commitment to music. His music touched many people, and he played an important role in the lives of both fans and other musicians.
Born in 1956, Zakaria started the popular sungura band Khiama Boys. The group helped shape Zimbabwean music and gave a platform to big stars like Alick Macheso. Over his 40-year career, Zakaria became known for not only his music but also for mentoring young artists and being humble and respectful.
The family said funeral and memorial details will be shared soon. Zakaria is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His music and influence will continue to be remembered by many.
