Ward 25 Councillor Aleck Ndlovu has warned that corruption is directly affecting service delivery and the country’s tax burden, calling for tougher laws and stronger enforcement.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement hosted by the Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET), in partnership with the Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association (BVTA) in Bulawayo recently, Ndlovu said corruption fuels illicit financial flows, with minerals leaving the country illegally, depriving government of revenue needed for development.

He said weak enforcement and porous systems undermine national security and scare away investors, despite Zimbabwe being rich in natural resources.

Ndlovu questioned why a country with vast mineral wealth continues to struggle with basic services such as water supply and electricity generation.

He urged Parliament to strengthen laws that punish corruption, saying resources must be protected and accounted for to restore public confidence.

Ndlovu stressed that without decisive action against corruption, efforts to improve public services and attract investment will remain ineffective.
