The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has urged customers and the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rain warnings.

In a statement, ZETDC said heavy rains and strong winds can damage electrical infrastructure and pose serious risks. Residents are advised to treat all fallen or low-hanging power lines as live and avoid touching or attempting to move them. Faults such as fallen poles, sparking wires, or flooded substations should be reported immediately.

They also advised that for indoor safety, members of the public should avoid handling electrical appliances, switches, or sockets with wet hands or while standing on wet floors. The company also recommends unplugging non-essential gadgets during storms to prevent damage from lightning-induced surges.

They have also said that restoration of faults may take longer than usual during heavy rains, as technical teams must adhere to strict safety protocols.
