Zimbabwean football is taking a major step toward fixing long-standing gaps in youth development, with the launch of the BancABC Roots Impact Programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at creating a clear, fair pathway for young players.

The programme, led by the Zimbabwe Football Association in partnership with BancABC, forms the junior pillar of the ZIFA Presidential Challenge Cup and introduces structured Under-14 and Under-16 competitions for both boys and girls across all provinces.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi said the initiative is designed to replace fragmented youth football with a transparent, standardised system that connects schools, communities and elite pathways.

The programme is supported by five national hubs in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare and Masvingo, and is aligned with the education system through an agreement with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

BancABC Managing Director Tawanda Munaiwa stated that the partnership reflects a long-term investment in youth empowerment, education and national development.

The Roots Impact Programme are expected to strengthen grassroots football and build a sustainable foundation for the future of the game in Zimbabwe.
