The Cabinet has approved the 2025/2026 Summer Crops Marketing Plan and the 2026 Winter Crop Production Plan, targeting increased cereal output and improved farmer payments.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Anxious Masuka, the summer season is projected to produce about 2.74 million metric tonnes of cereals, while winter production is expected to deliver over 950 000 tonnes from wheat, barley and Irish potatoes.

The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) currently holds over 158 000 metric tonnes of grain in stock. Government says it has paid more than 80 percent of farmer dues in both US dollars and ZiG, with outstanding payments still being processed.

The marketing programme will cover Pfumvudza/Intwasa farmers, self-financed producers, contractors, and ARDA-supported schemes, with over 1 800 collection points set to be used nationwide.

Meanwhile, tobacco sales have reached nearly 150 million kilogrammes, generating significant export earnings and reflecting strong growth compared to last season.

The winter cropping plan targets more than 140 000 hectares, with wheat production expected to anchor national food security.
