Preparations for the 2026 King Mzilikazi Day commemorations are underway, with organisers aiming to surpass last year’s record attendance that drew thousands locally and from the diaspora.
The two-day programme is scheduled for 4 and 5 September, with the first day dedicated to children’s activities including storytelling and cultural education, while the main commemoration will take place at King Mzilikazi’s memorial site.
The Mthwakazi kaMzilikazi Cultural Association says the event marks 25 years since the commemorations began in 2000, and continues to attract both local and international participants.
Mthwakazi kaMzilikazi Cultural Association spokesperson Dr Gasolo told SkyzMetro FM, “the day remains significant in honouring King Mzilikazi’s legacy of uniting diverse communities and preserving cultural identity” , he said.
Last year’s edition featured cultural parades, performances, and historical exhibitions, drawing visitors from across the region and beyond.Organisers say the 2026 programme will also expand school outreach initiatives, alongside additional heritage events later in the year.
