Gwanda Court Jails Esigodini Man for 15 Years for Rape

A 55-year-old man from Esigodini has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison by the Gwanda Regional Magistrate Court for the rape of his 14-year-old niece.

The court heard that the incident occurred in June 2025 during a party at the offender’s homestead. The victim had been left in a bedroom to care for a sleeping infant when the man entered, assaulted her, and threatened her with further violence if she spoke out.

The crime remained hidden until February 2026, when the victim’s mother noticed physical changes in her daughter. Under questioning, the teenager revealed she was pregnant and recounted the assault.

Following a police report and a successful prosecution by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the 55-year-old was convicted this week.
