Tragedy strikes Nkulumane as wife, infant killed in alleged attack

A man has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife and fatally injuring an infant during a suspected domestic violence incident in Nkulumane 5, near Sekusile Shopping Centre, in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to a witness who spoke to SkyzMetro FM, the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with an axe before assaulting three children with what was described as a steel rod.

The witness said the infant died while being taken to hospital, while two other children were admitted in critical condition.

The witness, who identified herself as a tenant at the property, said she was awakened by loud noises at around 1am. She alleged that the suspect later told the children he had killed their mother before asking for a candle and instructing one of them to break house windows while shouting incoherently.

Neighbours alerted the police, who responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. He remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Police had not yet issued an official statement at the time of publication.
