More than 19 000 motorists arrested by ZRP in the past week

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and other traffic law enforcement agents have arrested more than 19 000 motorists throughout the country’s urban areas for reckless driving.

ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of these motorists including 1 164 individuals who have been arrested for touting.

Meanwhile 530 vehicles have been impounded within the country’s roads for lacking registration plates. In a statement addressing this issue, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi had this to say:

Last week the police, Tendy Three Investment (TTI) and the VID launched an operation targeting vehicles driven in breach of the law including pirate taxis and pirate kombis (mushikashika), unregistered and unlicensed vehicles and drivers committing parking and driving offenses to ensure compliance with road laws.

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage and the police have pledged to work in collaboration inorder to restore order within Zimbabwean roads and ensure adherence to traffic laws.
