The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of 1,834 new teachers to fill expansion posts within the education system.

This comes as a welcome development amidst ongoing concerns about teacher employment shortages in Zimbabwe.

The appointments, effective from the teachers’ assumption of duty, were confirmed by Dr. Tsitsi Choruma, Secretary at the PSC, in a statement addressed to the Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education.

The PSC emphasized its commitment to creating an inclusive work environment, ensuring accessibility and reasonable accommodation for educators with disabilities, as mandated by the constitution.

All new teachers are set to undergo a mandatory probationary period of one year, as stipulated in regulations. Confirmation in their positions will be contingent upon satisfactory performance during this period, as well as successful security vetting and medical examinations.
