OZICC returns in an entertaining fashion

The muchly anticipated return of the ORAP Zenzele Isuzu Champions Cup (OZICC) lived upto expectations with teams showing hunger to win the prestigious trophy on its return after four years of absence in a tournament that is currently ongoing at Gifford High school.

Placed in Group A alongside Matobo district’s Cyrene High school, Lower Gweru’s Maboleni High and Hwange high, Somvubu from Bubi district prevailed as group A winners topping the table with 7 points. Hwange High secured the last group A semi final qualifying place with 5 points.

In group B, Hosts Gifford High school had to settle for a last game gasp win to secure a place in the semi finals after finishing in second place with 5 points behind Embakwe High school who also topped the group with 5 points that was filled with a series of draws.

Meanwhile in the girls department, In group A, Beitbridge’s Siyoka secondary school proved too strong for their opponents securing the top spot with 9 points, just 3 points ahead of Guwe High school who sealed the second and final place for the semi finals after finishing the group phase with 6 points.

In group B, managing to amass a total of 14 goals in 3 games, Somvubu prevailed as group winners with 9 points, ahead of Fatima who qualified on a better goal difference with 4 points ahead of Mbalabala Secondary school who also had the same number of points.

The tournament concludes today with the finals set to be played in the early hours of the morning.
