As part of its efforts to foster regional co-operation and promote economic growth, Zimbabwe has signed the SADC Seed Charter, which aims to harmonize trade within the region, a key aspect of the SADC Industrialization Policy.
This move also aligns with the country’s commitment to join the rest of the SADC community ahead of the upcoming 44th SADC Summit.
Speaking during the press conference today, Minister of Lands, Agriculture, fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Honourable Anxious Masuka said that this charter seeks to facilitate the free movement of seeds between countries, enhancing regional trade and food security.
He further added that most countries in the SADC region are agro-based and thus making it crucial for their agricultural sectors to collaborate with each other at various levels.
By joining the SADC Seed Charter, Zimbabwe takes a significant stride towards regional integration, paving the way for increased economic cooperation and development within the SADC community.
