Trio in court for unlawful hunting

Three men Pharaoh Chuma (32), Conrad Ncube (30) and Nesbert Siziba (30) appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court on charges of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act, hunting an animal in a National Park.

The court heard that on the 12th of July 2024 at around 8am Rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority were on routine patrol at Sinamatela National Park in Hwange where they noticed suspicious spoor

They tracked it for 3 kilometres and found the accused persons in possession of a warthog carcass, a spear, and two axes. When the accused persons saw the Rangers, they ran away, but the first accused was apprehended.

He then led to the arrest of the other two. The warthog carcass, spear, and two axes were recovered. The warthog was valued at USD 1 000.

The accused persons were convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, of which 6 months were suspended. A further 6 months was suspended on condition that the accused persons perform 210 hours of community service.
