The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Bulawayo has urged members of the public to practise caution when seeking medical attention in all the public health institutions in the city.

This is after a fake doctor, Prosper Mpofu from Upper Rangemore, was arrested yesterday , while attending to patients at the Mpilo Hospital’s casualty ward.

Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube emphasized the importance of verifying medical practitioners’ credibility.

“As ZRP we are investigating this matter as a fraudulent case where someone cheated people by pretending to be a doctor and also injecting them with medications that are not supposed to be used”

“People must be cautious out here when seeking medical help and make sure that those who give you medical prescriptions are qualified. If you see someone wearing a white coat and a stethoscope it does not mean you must assume they are a doctor. We would like to appreciate Mpilo Hospital for being alert and savinv people’s lives who might have fallen prey to the bogus doctor”_ZRP Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube

Mpofu claimed to be a doctor from United Bulawayo Hospitals but representatives from UBH denied any affiliation, raising suspicions about his legitimacy.

The impersonator is said to have administered unconventional medications and prescribed drugs not typically used at Mpilo Hospital.

He also failed to provide patients with receipts or proper instructions for medication use, posing a significant health risk.

The investigation into Mpofu’s case is ongoing, with further details to be announced as the case develops.
