Beitbridge Man to Stand Trial for Drug Possession

Melusi Ngwenya, a 26-year-old man from Mbedzi, Beitbridge, is set to face trial on October 7th, 2024, for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

Ngwenya was arrested on September 27th, 2024, during a police operation targeting illegal cross-border activities at Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus.

Authorities discovered 4 cobs of dagga, weighing approximately 9.8 kilograms and valued at ZWG132,508, hidden in his luggage. The drugs were wrapped in black plastic and concealed between chicken cuts.

Ngwenya was charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and made an initial court appearance, where he was remanded to the upcoming trial date.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to crack down on illegal drug activities in the border town of Beitbridge.
