Highlanders FC are set to host ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields Stadium this Sunday, October 6, 2024, in a crucial Matchday 29 Premier Soccer League fixture. Both teams are looking to end the season strongly, with the encounter expected to be a hard-fought battle.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu expressed concerns over ZPC Kariba’s defensive strength, acknowledging the challenge that lies ahead.
“If I look at the first leg that we played away in Kariba, it was a game we could have won. Unfortunately, we drew, but we came back strong in the second half and managed to equalize,” Kaindu said.
Despite a few injury concerns, Kaindu confirmed that most of his players have resumed full training, except for winger Godfrey Makaruse, who is still on light training as he recovers.
“It’s not going to be that easy for us, but if we keep our calm and composure in trying to unlock their defense, it will be possible for us,” he added.
Highlanders, who are currently in fifth place with 41 points, still have ambitions for a higher finish. Kaindu emphasized that his team has plenty to play for as the season winds down.
“If you look at the points difference between us and the team at the top, it’s quite significant, even if we pick up maximum points in the remaining games,” he said.
“But football being football, no team has been declared champions yet, and no team has been relegated. So, there’s still a lot to fight for.”
ZPC Kariba, who are tenth with 34 points, will look to upset Highlanders at Barbourfields. In their last meeting, the two sides played to a 1-1 draw. Kaindu is well aware of the threat ZPC Kariba poses, particularly their resilience in defense, and has urged his side to stay focused.
With much at stake for both teams, the clash promises to be an exciting encounter for the fans at Barbourfields Stadium.
