Highlanders FC dedicated their 4-0 thrashing of Greenfuel at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday to their late Chief Executive Officer, Sihlangu Dlodlo.
Dlodlo, who joined Highlanders FC as CEO in April this year, was tragically found dead at his Nketa 9 home last Monday. He was laid to rest at Lady Stanley Cemetery on Saturday.
The team observed a moment of silence for Sihlangu Dlodlo before kickoff, paying tribute to his memory.
Commenting in yesterday’s post-match press conference, Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu dedicated the win to their late CEO, describing him as a valuable member of the team.
“I put on a different suit today, in honor of our late CEO, and as I said even before the game, the only way that we had to honor him it was for us to win, and we did that with the biggest score line of the season.
What is important is, we won the game that we had dedicated it to our CEO. It comes with a lot of emotions, it is not easy for us to lose a man that was pushing us the right direction, it has been a very difficult week for us as Highlanders and the only thing that made things better, was to give our CEO a proper send off and this is what we did today.” said Kaindu.
Kaindu also acknowledged the performance of his players applauding their defensive discipline that saw them keep a clean sheet while sharpshooter Lynoth Chikuhwa scored a hat trick with Brighton Ncube also snatching a hattrick of assists in the process.
“I give credit to the team , the fighting spirit and even for us to score four goals shows that we are probably heading in the right direction, and at the end of the day we also managed to keep a clean sheet,
“We should have scored more goals, but for us to score four goals today is a plus and to see our leading goal scorer, scoring a hat trick and open up 2 or 3 goals is gap in the golden boot race is good,” he added.
