The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Bulawayo has confirmed receiving 90 accident reports over the past week.
Speaking in an interview with Skyz Metro FM, ZRP Bulawayo Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele reported that of the 90 incidents, 9 were classified as serious and 81 as minor, with no fatalities recorded in Bulawayo.
“In road accidents this week, we received 90 reports, with no deaths recorded. Out of the 90 accidents, 9 were serious, while 81 were minor, and only 13 people were injured,” said Msebele.
Assistant Inspector Msebele also highlighted that they impounded 128 cars that were not roadworthy.
“We have 128 impounds. This week, we were impounding illegal taxis, vehicles that are not roadworthy, cars that do not comply with the laws, and those involved in illegal parking and ranking.
“We were doing so in a bid to clean the city, as drivers were now parking recklessly, even in the middle of the road,” she said
Meanwhile, in Matabeleland South, a collision occurred along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge road between a regional bus service and a Toyota Lexus.
The accident claimed two lives and injured five others.
