Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has clarified that Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu and Finance and Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo remain in their positions, despite facing corruption charges.

The council issued a statement following public inquiries about the status of the two officials. The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has confirmed that the law mandating the suspension of council employees involved in criminal cases does not apply to councillors.

The two councillors, who were arrested in November on allegations of soliciting a $US20 000 bribe, will continue their duties while the legal process unfolds. Their potential suspension will depend on the outcome of the court case.
