Bulawayo set to Host Public Hearing on Broadcasting Services Amendment Bill

The Portfolio Committee on Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services will hold a public hearing on the Broadcasting Services Amendment Bill at the Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo on the 19th of December 2024.

This hearing is part of a nationwide series aimed at gathering public input on the proposed amendments. The hearings began in Harare on the 16th of December with subsequent meetings held in Manicaland on December 17, Masvingo on December 18, and scheduled for Matabeleland North at Bubi Community Hall on December 20, and Midlands Province on December 21.

The 2024 Broadcasting Services Amendment Bill seeks to modernize Zimbabwe’s broadcasting framework, fostering inclusivity, safeguarding constitutional freedoms, and embracing technological advancements. Key highlights include enhanced promotion of local cultural expression and stricter enforcement of ZBC radio licensing.

The public is urged to participate, review the proposals, and share their views.
