Nkomwa Foundation Trust an organistation which advocates for the rights of people with disabilities, has emphasized the critical need to invest in education for children with disabilities.
This came at the back of global International Education Day celebrations which were held on Friday under the theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” which highlighted need to harness the transformative power of learning while preserving core human values amidst rapid technological advancements.
In an interview with SkyzMetro FM, the Director of the Nkomwa Foundation Trust, Mr. Pick Nkomwa, emphasized the significance of investing in children with disabilities, who hold great potential and must not be neglected or discriminated against.
“This year’s theme encourages reflection on the power of education to equip individuals and communities to navigate, understand, and influence technological advancement. As Artificial Intelligence reshapes the education landscape, it’s critical to ensure that no one, especially persons with disabilities, is left behind in this transformative journey,” Nkomwa stated.
He further highlighted the urgent need for education systems to adapt to AI, ensuring that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have access to transformative learning experiences.
International Education Day is celebrated annually on the 24th of January 2025 and serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
