Bulawayo’s major dams have experienced a slight decrease in water levels this month as rainfall has temporarily ceased. According to the latest update from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, Umzingwane Dam’s water level dropped marginally from 34.67% to 34.7%, while Upper Ncema Dam fell from 33.21% to 33.9%.

Despite the dip, national dam levels continue to rise, albeit at a slower pace due to reduced rainfall in certain regions. The national average for dam levels now stands at 75.4%.

Locally, the water levels remain below the required threshold, with the following readings: Lower Ncema at 7.0%, Bubi Lupane at 53.7%, Mtshabezi at 67.6%, Upper Ncema at 33.9%, Inyankuni at 9.8%, and Insiza at 42.3%. However, with the ongoing rainy season, there is hope that water levels will improve by season’s end.
